Two Grade 8 students from DIS proudly represented the school at the Asia Students Arts Festival 2026, held at the Hong Kong Youth Square in Hong Kong on February 1, 2026. Organized annually by the First Education Group, the festival is a major international platform that gathers young performing artists from across Asia and beyond. This year’s event brought together participants from regions such as Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Shenzhen, and Australia, promoting both artistic excellence and cultural exchange in classical, modern, Eastern, and Western music and dance.
The 2026 festival featured over 6,000 participants and audience members, including nearly 3,000 competitors, with around 1,300 performances presented across a 12-day schedule. The event was supported by 30 professional judges from different countries and regions and included 50 competition segments, with participation from nearly 100 schools and performing arts institutions.
Athena Lin earned 2nd Runner-Up in the Solo Classical Piano category (Ages 12–13), while Kaitlyn Nana Tsuchida also secured 2nd Runner-Up in the Solo Viola category (Ages 14–15). Demonstrating remarkable collaboration, Athena Lin and Kaitlyn Nana Tsuchida further achieved 1st Runner-Up in the Duet Strings category (Ages 14–15). These results are reflected in the official list of winners released by the festival organizers.
The students were accompanied by their parents and guided by their coach, Ronaldo Francisco, who also serves as their Orchestra class teacher. His mentorship played a key role in their preparation and success in the competition.
The entire DIS community is very proud of these young girls for their remarkable achievements, which reflect not only their dedication and musical excellence but also bring honor to the school on an international stage. In recognition of their success, Sr. Jacqueline C. Manuel, OP, Directress/Principal, led the community in extending congratulations to the students for their outstanding accomplishments.
