“Celebrating the fruitful harvest of unity in diversity"

Thanksgiving falls on Thursday, November 23, 2023. Thanksgiving always falls on the fourth Thursday of November. To make the most of celebrating Thanksgiving Day, DIS observed also its D’TORCH HOUSE Family Day. Thanksgiving is a chance for families to gather together and enjoy being with one another. It is also a meaningful time to reflect on our blessings and remember how God has been faithful in our lives. This year’s theme is “Celebrating the fruitful harvest of unity in diversity”. Numerous activities await the students, teachers, and parents. The D’TORCH HOUSE committee led by its chairperson Ms. Maria (Archie) Racadio spearheaded the event.
The celebration started with a get-together lunch on the soccer field. The students were gathered by class to ensure an organized assembly. The parents joined their children’s homeroom classes and brought various foods for sharing. The Volunteer Involved Parents (VIP) brought a variety of food as well.
After lunch, a parade of houses ensued. The Truthful Scarlet’s “Harvest of Love”, Organized Emerald’s “Nature’s Bounty”, Reflective Sapphire’s “Blue Skies of Thanks”, Courageous Gold’s “Sunshine of Thanks”, Helpful Carnelian’s “ Harvest of Abundance”.
A short program transpired to liven up the atmosphere. Directress/Principal Sr. Jacqueline C. Manuel, OP delivered the opening remarks. She welcomed the students, teachers, and parents on this momentous celebration.
She said, “Thanksgiving is a time for reflection, gratitude, and strengthening of bonds with family and friends. Let us celebrate the fruitful harvest of unity in diversity. ”
Several students performed. Kindergartens Bl. Jane of Aza and Bl. Columba of Rieti had a dance number. Andrew Chang (G3I), Ryder Shih (G2C), and Joshua Huang (G2J) had a dance number on their own. Ellen Marshall and Clara Liu of Grade 7 St. Tomas of Aquinas had a duet with Clara playing the violin. Grade 8 St. Agnes students - Gian Crisostomo, Emma Ganhao, and Ella Ramos performed a song number.
Parlor Games by House succeeded the short program. The Parlor Games were sack races and tug-of-war. There were three Sack race games held by House. The first game was participated by combining lower, middle, and high school students with teachers and parents. The second game was for Lower School (10 students per House). The third game was for Middle and High School (10 students combined).
There were three games for the five-way tug-of-war. The first game was for Lower School (10 students per House). The second game was for Middle and High School students (10 total participants). The third game was for teachers and staff with parents and sisters.
Vice Principal Sr. Rosa Dabhi, CCV gave the closing remarks. She thanked all the attendees - parents, students, teachers, and staff. This historic celebration will be an inspiration for all of us. The event ended with all the attendees helping one another in cleaning the venue.
