Celebrating the Gift of New Life

Suao Recollection 2017

Every year the Campus Ministry Department organizes a day of recollection for the Middle School students in Suao, Ilan Hsien, where they have the opportunity to reflect on their life through various activities and talks.

This year the Campus Ministry Department organized an activity called “The Gift of New Life” that brought the participants a re-laxing experience in Suao. Activities were designed not only to give enjoyment but to bring home enduring understanding and a life-long learning experience among the students.

Attended by at least 25 students, three of them from the D’TORCH Youth Ministry Leaders and six dynamic teachers, this year’s Suao Recollection (April 28-29) was truly fun-filled, interesting and meaningful. The set of prepared activities enlivened this year’s theme, “Celebrating the gift of new life”.

The main objectives of this activity were to discover the value of new life in the context of the Easter Season, to develop unity and cooperation in accomplishing the given tasks, appreciation of si-lence during prayerful activities, and to intensify obedience in fol-lowing the given instructions very well throughout the whole recollection period.

The Activities included: Creative Tomb Making on the seashore where students’ creativity, unity, and obedience were tested. The rest of the activities were done inside the convent of the Vedruna sisters, organized by Sr. Rosa. Students were able to learn more about themselves and others through creative and engaging group sharing and Art workshops. The morning prayer on top of the mount brought all the participants into a deep prayer of thanksgiv-ing along with the soothing music played by one of the participants.

The culminating group challenge and Art Activity brought memora-ble experiences and realization for the participants how good life is if shared with others.

The Activity was ended with the DIY Art center showcasing how wooden sandals or slippers are made creatively.

The success of this year’s Suao Recollection didn’t only depend on the careful planning of the Campus Ministry Department but also with the unending grace from God throughout the activity.
