Academics

The school provides education for foreign students, regardless of race, color and creed, from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12, including Advanced Placement.

E.A.L. & E.A.P. Programs

DIS offers an English as an Additional Language (EAL) Program for grades 2 to 8 and English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program for grades 9 and 10. These programs support students who enter DIS with a need for English proficiency development. The EAL and EAP courses are student-centered and activity-oriented, offering students ample opportunities for listening, speaking, reading, and writing, with a sharper focus on enhancing literacy.

Skills development is aimed at language acquisition and upgrading the student’s English proficiency. EAL/EAP classes help students with their coursework, but the main purpose of these classes is to support the students’ development of proficiency in English. Students are tested on the WIDA system for placement, and students in the program are tested annually for progress and proficiency.
