We are ONE at 61!


Every 8th of December marks the foundation day of Dominican International School Taipei. It coincides with the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. 2018 is the sixty-first founding anniversary of DIS Taipei. Yes, “We are ONE @ 61!” is this year’s theme. After 61 brilliant years of education, the DIS community proudly can say that they are one with the goal of fulfilling its vision and mission in providing quality education.


Since December 8, 2018, falls on a Saturday, Sr. Ma. Zenaida T. Ancheta, OP, Directress/Principal decided to have the festivities on December 7, 2018. The festivity was divided into two parts: Part 1 - The Eucharistic Mass, and Part 2 – Program Celebration. The Eucharist Mass was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Giuseppe Silvestrini, of the Vatican Apostolic Nunciature in Taipei.


After the mass, the school treated the students to a hearty snack.


The Program

Sr. Zenaida gave the opening remarks. She said that the original name of DIS which was Our Lady of Immaculate Conception School. That is the reason why we celebrate every 8th of December the foundation day of DIS. Then, it was renamed in honor of our Father, St. Dominic de Guzman and became Dominican School. Then, day after day, became Dominican International School.


Also, she believes that the Dominican Family, remain to be involved with the spirit of faith and love to make available for our school and community as we continue celebrating through the inspiration of our Father, St. Dominic, living the Dominican spirit. She revealed that the audience will witness the viewing of videos that date back to its early years of existence with clippings of the events.


The Management Information Technology (MIT) department led by Mr. Ian Crisostomo prepared the three videos.


The first video featured the “Humble Beginnings” (1960 – 1980) of DIS which was followed by the D’ Torch choir singing “Christmas Is Coming, Let the Church Bells Ring” with Mr. Leon Henrico, the choirmaster. Afterward, they sang “Be the Change” with grade nine and ten students joining them on stage.


The second video was the “Colorful Memories” (1981 – 2000) of DIS. A group of teachers and staff performed an intermission dance number that featured songs from the fifties to nineties followed.


The last video was about “Looking Forward” (2001 – 2018). It includes the year when DIS got its accreditation. The program ended with the Dominican sisters blowing the candles of the cupcakes that showed a figure of 61 which was prepared by the Dominican Youth Ministry.


The masters of ceremony were Ms. Ellen Chu and Mr. Dennis Nieh, President and Vice President of the VIP respectively.
