Meet the MIT Team

True to its mission of providing holistic assistance and support to all members of the DIS Taipei community, the MIT department has been commended twice by the WASC people. The MIT Team is headed by Mr. Ian Crisostomo. The team members are Edward Solis, D'Torch campus radio manager and webmaster, Erick Gonzales, video editor, and graphic artist, and cameramen/photographer Edwin Portillo and David Tu.

WASC mid-cycle visit 2020

Last October 2020, DIS had a mid-cycle visit from the Western Association of School and Colleges (WASC). The visiting committee members were Mr. William Christelman, chairperson, and Mr. Christian Choquette. Mr. Christian is the Curriculum & Accreditation Coordinator of Hsinchu International School. Mr. Christelman is a retired High School administrator from California. The Visiting Mid-Term Review Committee and Dominican International School refer to the WASC visit as a “Blended Visit.” Mr. Christlian Choquette, WASC Team Member, was able to spend one day on-site at DIS. The remainder of the visit was virtual, with all meetings being conducted through a video and audio link. This allowed for the visit to have both physical and virtual reviews of the school.

Because of the pandemic, Mr. Christelman cannot travel to Taipei and be in DIS physically. With this scenario, upon the direction of the Directress/Principal Sr. Ma. Zenaida T. Ancheta, OP the MIT team built a digital interface that contains information about DIS. It covers videos and PDF documents. Included in the videos were real-time lessons from teachers, school facilities, and morning traffic flow.

The visiting committee commended - The DIS MIT administration and staff members for building and maintaining an incredible digital capacity to enrich student learning both within and outside of the school.

WASC Training Workshop

A Teacher Appreciation Conference was held last September 22-24, 2021. Part of the conference is WASC Training Workshop from international consultants Alana Steward and Stephen Massiah. Both have served WASC for several years.

Again, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, both speakers cannot come to Taipei for the workshop. Dr. Mercia de Souza, the professional development coordinator, made it happen through an online meeting where the teachers are in the gymnasium and the two speakers are in their respective cities around the world. Mr. Ian and the MIT team set up a live production with three video cameras and have it streamed to both speakers in real-time. It facilitated the exchange of ideas between the teachers and the speakers.

Dr. Mercia shared a message from Ms. Alana "Could you please take some pictures of your tech set? It is very good and is helping with the delivery of our training. We are going to suggest to other schools to do something similar!"

Dr. Mercia said “This is the second time Mr. Ian and his team have been commended by WASC. Thank you for the many hours of preparation, for being here before everyone else, and for leaving long after most people have gone home. They even cut up all those pieces of paper you found in your envelopes. Thank you!”
